The main objective of most
personal goals is self-improvement. Everybody wants to be better at the things
they do or as a personin general. In your quest to improve yourself, you must
have realized early on that there are rarely short cuts to your goals and that
you have to work on them from day to day. However, finding the daily motivation to continue your
efforts is more often than not the biggest obstacle you will face.
You may have written down your
goals and the first steps toward them may be clear in your head, but there are
many distractions and stressful situations that happen every day. Because of
this, losing daily motivation is not difficult to do. Nevertheless, if you
falter today you need to get back up tomorrow because that is the only way you
will realize your goals. If you need some help finding daily motivation, here
are some quick suggestions:
Re-create the desire you have for your
goal. Visualize yourself when you have achieved what you wanted. For
example, if your goal is to lose 30 pounds, imagine yourself finally doing
that and being able to wear the clothes that you want. Imagine the
approving looks of your friends or acquaintances when they see you. Just
try to think about what it would feel like to be 30 pounds lighter, and
really focus on the details. Immerse yourself in this exercise for some
high-level daily motivation.
Do the opposite of the above tip.
Instead of imagining yourself succeeding in your goals, think about what would
happen if you failed. The thought of failure can be frightening so most
people actually find this exercise more effective in boosting daily
motivation.
Re-evaluate your goal. Is it
really something you want? Or did other factors come into play when you
were setting your goals? Losing daily motivation a few times is
understandable but if you have lost interest in your goal for more than a
week, it is completely possible that you may need to re-assess your goals
or the actions you are taking to achieve them. If a particular task is
holding you back and zapping your daily motivation, re-focus on the bigger
picture and ask yourself how to
get throught it. If, on the other hand, you are suddenly overwhelmed by
your goal, then fuel your daily motivation by taking it one step and one
day at a time. Look back at what you have accomplished after a week, and
you will most likely see that you have actually done a lot of work.
Lastly, take care of yourself. If you do not have the physical energy, it
will be hard to sustain daily motivation so make sure you sleep well, eat a
balanced diet and get some exercise.
These are just some few
suggestions to motivate yourself but everything still depends on you. Try one
or two of them to get you right back on track.
